The Comptroller General’s Department was established on October 7, 1890 during the reign of King Rama V. At that time, it was called the Department of Account (Khrom Sarabaanchee), taking responsible for direction the Kingdom’s financial management. Afterwards, King Rama VI formed the Inspection Department and combined this section with the Department of Account (the changed to Khrom Baanchee Klang) on September 18, 1915. In 1932 when the country changed to democracy rule, the ministries, bureaus and departments were reorganized according to the decree. The inspection department was transferred to be a new and independent agency under the Office of the Prime Minister namely “ Office of the Auditor General of Thailand” on July 20, 1932 while the Department of Account received its new official name, “The Comptroller General’s Department” (Khrom Bunchee Klang) on May 23, 1932 which is still used until today. In addition, the budget division which was under the Comptroller General’s Department at that time was upgraded and separated to be an agency under the Office of the Prime Minister namely “The Bureau of Budget” on February 14, 1959. Since the first day of its establishment in 1890, the department has been supervised by 27 Comptroller Generals of which the first was Phraya Nornrajpakdi Srirasdakorn and Mr. Piyaphan Nimmanahaeminda , the present Comptroller general. |
